A downloadable tool for Windows

Mimmo Engine is a no-code visual novel editor built for storytellers who don't want to fight with code.

Free to download for Windows. The free plan covers the full visual editor, unlimited projects, up to 10 characters each, and the on-device AI that writes stories and scenes and generates sprites. Premium at 19 EUR per month lifts the character limit and adds .mimdisk export, mini-games, inventory, gallery, custom scripts and statistics. macOS and Linux builds are in development.

How creators earn

Mimmo Engine is built around three sellable product types and an optional marketplace, so authors can pick the business model that fits.

Three sellable product types

  • .mimproj is the editable project file. JSON serialization of everything (config, characters, sprites, scenes, scripts, assets). Anyone with the editor can open and modify it.
  • .mimdisk is the read only distribution bundle, SHA 256 sealed for integrity. Plays in the Mimmo Player. Optionally tied to a marketplace product so only buyers can launch it.
  • Minigames are standalone minigame bundles (memory, quiz, click target, sequence, drag and drop, math, typing, rhythm, more) that other authors can import and drop into any scene of their own novel.

Four ways to ship and earn

  • Sell finished novels. Export your project as a .mimdisk, publish on the Mimmo Store, players buy it. The Mimmo Player verifies ownership at launch (login + JWT). Only paid users can read your story.
  • Sell .mimproj bases and templates. Package an unfinished story, a UI kit, or a reusable scene library as an editable .mimproj. Buyers extend it, brand it, export their own .mimdisk, ship under their name. Like a Unity Asset Store for narrative content.
  • Sell minigames. Build a custom minigame (logic, config, art) once and license it to other authors. They drop your minigame into their scenes via a single block, you collect royalties on every sale.
  • Open source and community continuations. Release a .mimproj publicly under any license you like. The community forks it, writes the next chapter, ships their own continuation. Start a story and let the community continue it.

Mimmo Player is the cross platform runtime that plays .mimdisk files on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Drag a disc onto the window to play, keep a library of your purchased novels, log in to unlock DRM protected content. Players never need the editor. Mimmo Player is free for everyone, so your players never need to buy anything to open what you make.

Mimmo Store at mimmoengine.com hosts published novels, templates, and minigames. It processes purchases and issues ownership tokens consumed by the Mimmo Player. DRM is fully opt in: you can also distribute .mimdisk files for free, on itch.io, on your own site, anywhere, by exporting without a marketplace product ID.

AI assistant (always optional)

  • Mimmo AI: built in assistant that runs fully offline on your machine. No API keys, no monthly fee, no data leaving your computer.
  • Multiple performance tiers, scales to your hardware from laptop to workstation
  • Or bring your own provider: Claude, OpenAI, Google Gemini
  • Story Generator: characters, outline, scene by scene generation
  • Image analyzer for sprite outfit detection
  • Every AI feature has a manual workflow. AI is a copilot, never a requirement.

Why it exists

Existing visual novel tools force a choice: write code (Ren'Py) or accept rigid editors with limited flexibility (TyranoBuilder). Mimmo Engine is the third option, full power without the syntax wall.

How to get it

Download the editor free at mimmoengine.com/download. No waiting list, no campaign to back. The free plan has no time limit and no project limit, and includes every AI feature.

A Premium subscription, 19 EUR per month and cancellable at any time, unlocks .mimdisk export and distribution, mini-games, inventory and gallery, custom JavaScript, and publishing on the Mimmo Engine Store. You pay to distribute, not to create.
